Grenache
Grenache is the most widely planted French black grape. It ripens quite late so it needs warm and dry climates such as Southern France and Spain. It does play a primary role for some of the most delicious wines such as Chateauneuf Du Pape, Spanish wines and some well known Californian wines.
The taste is all candied fruit-driven and spices such as cinnamon, however the herbal notes of oregan and tobacco come to the nose when it is coming from Cotes Du Rhone. It is a perfect pairing with dishes that have a high content of herbs and ethnic spices and if slightly chilled it helps reduce the heartburn of spicy food.
