France
France is one of the largest wine producers in the world with history that traces back to the 6th century BC, when the Romans were populating the area. The "terroir" concept is central to the higher end French wines with the AOC (Appellation d'Origin Controllee) indicating what specific style of wine and location we have in the bottle.
Most common grapes varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Carmenere and many others. The most famous French areas for first class wines are of course Burgundy, Bordeaux, and the super exclusive region of Champagne.
