Boizel Champagne

Since 1834 six generations of the Boizel family have been at the helm of the House. Across the generations, the Boizel family has developed an in-depth awareness of the Champagne terroirs. The Boizel estates cover 7 hectares of land in the most superb crus of Champagne, including Avize and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, the origins of the Boizel family.

The Boizel  family believe that it their responsibility to listen to nature and guide it so that it may be reflected beautifully in every single one of the wines. Florent and Lionel Roques-Boizel believe in the significance of treating all of their grapes, crus and plots with the same attention and respect in order to preserve their natural characteristics.

BLENDING

Blending tastings are one of the most crucial processes of the Boizel winemaking method. Each year, from January to April, Florent and Lionel Roques-Boizel are joined by their parents Christophe and Evelyne to sample all of the current vintages wines. These tastings are also an chance to taste the reserve wines from prior vintages which have been stored separately, year after year, to be used as part of the blend for the non-vintage wines to maintain the signature house style.

This is a collaborative endeavour which needs technical understanding and insight. The family start with each year with a blank page then tasting, discussing, practising, starting over and finally making the final blend. Yet this process is also a vision, a art in which experience and instinct are key in achieving the elegance and finesse that have come to define the Boizel style. To create a blend is to take part in a creative process, the objective and purpose of which are the sharing of an emotion.
