England

English Wine hails all the way from Herefordshire in the West to Cornwall in the South. A new era for English wine began in the late 70's when the first vineyards of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier were planted in the South of England where the geology and soils are similar to the Champagne region; the chalk seam found there reappears from under the Channel across the Sussex and Hampshire downlands.

The aim of these vineyards was to make premium sparkling wine that would rival Champagne. Over the years several UK premium sparkling wines have attracted international acclaim and become Award Winning wine producers.
