Japanese whisky started to be produced in Japan at the end of the 19th century and was first commercialised in 1924. Compared to other types of whisky, its taste is close to Scotch whisky. Japanese people tend to drink it in high ball glasses but Japanese whisky can be enjoyed in different ways: neat, on the rocks, in cocktails or even twice up (a measure of whisky and a similar measure of water). This type of whisky pairs well with Japanese food like sushi or tempura.
