Pinotage is a red wine grape from South Africa. The grape comes from the crossing of Cinsault and Pinot Noir made by the scientist Abraham Perold, who wanted to find a way not to make the Pinot Noir struggle in South Africa’s climate.
The colour is extremely dark with high tannin and full body. The flavours are dark driven: Black Plum, Blackberry, Red Pepper, Tobacco, Tar and a Licorice finish. Pairing this wine is quite easy as it goes along with duck, pork, peppers and aubergines, rustic French bistro dishes and lasagne, Indian, charcuterie, especially coarse country patés and cheeses like cheddar and even a blue, especially if served with fresh figs.
