In 1824, The Glenlivet became the first licensed distillery in the parish of Glenlivet
The name “Glenlivet” was used by many other Single Malts in Speyside, as a sign of quality and excellence. However, after a long legal battle, it was agreed that only one Single Malt (that of George Smith) could carry the name The Glenlivet.
The Glenlivet remains the benchmark that all other Speyside single malts are measured against. It’s the definitive whisky that brings us together. And it must be said, we take great pride in setting that standard.
Almost 200 years since the distillery doors opened, today, the Master Distiller Alan Winchester created the Glenlivet Founders Reserve - this fine liquid captures the distinct, smooth, fruity taste that George Smith first envisioned in 1824, went on to be amass highest sales volume of any new Scotch product launched in the last five years (IWSR, 2016).
