Syrah is a red wine grape from France, used mainly to produce exquisite wines in the Northern Rhône. The wine can be medium-bodied and gorgeously perfumed, or full-bodied and meaty. Syrah wines are often very complex, covering a range of notes from black pepper, blackberry, cherry, violets, game and smoked bacon. As it ages, it can become more meaty and earthy, with notes of mushroom, truffle and Asian spices.
The wine can be enjoyed without a dish, however the most suitable pairing for Syrah is roasted game, steak, hearty roasted vegetables, and dishes with a good presence of herbs such as rosemary and thyme.
