JL Colombo Cornas Les Ruchets 2018 is a powerful, full-bodied Syrah with considerable richness. It offers an intoxicating blend of blackberry, black olive, vanilla, smoked bacon, black pepper, and graphite. It can age for many years, or alternatively be decanted in advance of drinking to allow the layers of aroma to reveal themselves.
Les Ruchets is a single vineyard Cornas with very old (up to 90 years) vines and is Colombo's flagship wine.

Grape: Syrah
In 2018, the Northern Rhône saw mostly wet weather before a heatwave occurred at the end of June. This accelerated ripening and growers had to be careful as there was potential for grape sugars to get out of control. Probably because of the rain early in the season, the grapes were both flavourful and juicy. This comes through in the finished wines, which have hedonistic, complex flavours and lush textures allied to a juicy drink-ability.
This old-vine Syrah boasts profoundly intense blackberry fruit with black olive, smoked bacon, black pepper, meat and dark chocolate.
