Porseleinberg has icon status and is one of the greatest Syrahs in the world owned by the legendary Boekenhoutskloof, of Chocolate Block fame.

The bunches of Syrah are foot pressed after natural fermentation takes place, the Boekenhoutskloof Syrah is a more elegant sibling versus the grunt and power of the Porseleinberg Syrah. It is taut and concentrated with a riveting structure that supports the poised and backward fruit. Gottfried’s craftsmanship brings us a fine-boned and elegant wine that consolidates their shift to more classically-styled Syrah.

Callie Louw is the bearded wild man who looks after the 2.5 hectare vineyard and makes the wines. Callie and his colleague Rosa Kruger have started a revolution hidden away in the mountains. It’s a struggle just to stand up in this extremely rugged and vertiginous region, let alone grow vines and make wine. It’s a real fight up there.
