John Duval Plexus 2021 is a blend of 48% Shiraz, 28% Grenache and 34% Mourvèdre from the Barossa Valley region of South Australia. John Duval Plexus Barossa Shiraz/Grenache/Mourvèdre is a red wine blend that brings together three classic grape varieties to create a complex and elegant wine. Shiraz, known for its bold and full-bodied nature, is carefully blended with Grenache and Mourvèdre, which add subtle floral and spicy notes to the mix.
Founded in 2003, John Duval Wines began with a single wine and grew over two decades to become one of the Barossa’s most celebrated producers. John Duval is the sixth generation of his family to grow grapes in South Australia, but only the first to transition from grape growing to winemaking.
'95 points. An impressive 49/35/16% shiraz/grenache/mourvèdre (from a 'who's who' of the best subregions in the Barossa Valley) made by ex-Grange winemaker, John Duval. Gorgeously perfumed with red cherry, raspberry and mulberry fruits flecked with floral notes of violets and jasmine with hints of ginger cake, red licorice, earth, cola and crushed stone. There is a lively acid cadence, superfine powdery tannins and an array of gingery spice and red fruit that fans out nicely on the finish. 15% abv. A bargain. Drink to 2029. The 2021 vintage in the Barossa Valley began with warm conditions and average rainfall. After two consecutive years of extreme weather conditions at flowering, late spring was calm and uneventful. This allowed great fruit set and healthy canopies carrying slightly above average crop load. Some well-timed rainfall in late January replenished the soil profile before a cool, dry March allowed slow and steady ripening and development of mature tannins. 2021 will be remembered as an exceptional Barossa vintage.
On the nose, vibrant black fruit nots with underlying notes of cinnamon, vanilla and smoke. Generous, velvety layers of red and black fruits are present across the palate, with a abundance of savoury spice, soft tannins and a bright acidity to allow for a long and pure finish.
