Meerlust Estate Rubicon 2020 Red Wine South Africa 75cl

Meerlust Estate Rubicon is an iconic Bordeaux blend from Stellenbosch, South Africa. It is a blend of 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. 2020 was a very successful vintage for this wine, with the warmth of the vintage showcased through lovely ripe tannins. Meanwhile, the altitude and proximity of the vineyards to the ocean have contributed to a fresh feel in the wine.

Meerlust estate has been part of the Myburgh family since 1756, now under the custody of Hannes Myburgh. They are widely regarded as the pioneers of the Bordeaux-blend in South Africa, when Nico Myburgh visited the Bordeaux region in the 1970s and noted climatic and soil similarities between there and his homeland on the coast of South Africa. By 1980, Meerlust produced the first Bordeaux blend from the region, and an icon was born.
