L’Hêtre Côtes de Bordeaux Castillon 2016 75cl
L’Hêtre 2016 is the debut vintage of this exciting domaine, owned by Jacques Thienpont since 2015 when he bought and renamed Château Goubau. This is in Castillon, still very much a subregion of Bordeaux that is on the rise, with some seriously big names investing in the area. As far as reputation goes, it does not get much bigger than the Thienpont family, owners of Le Pin in Pomerol and L'If in St-Emilion. It may be only a matter of time before L’Hêtre becomes as oversubscribed as their other estates, so this is certainly a wine to try now while it is still obtainable.

Grape: Cabernet Franc, Merlot
It opens with an abundance of blackberry, blackcurrant and damson on the nose, backed up by some clove and cinnamon spices. The palate is silky, with a firm mineral core, marked by the influence of the limestone soils on which the vines are planted. An impressive debut.
Loin of venison with beetroot and blackberries.
