Derenoncourt Domaine de l'A Côtes de Castillon 2016 75cl
Domaine de l'A Côtes de Castillon 2016 is a red wine that is focused on fruit purity and terroir. It elegantly showcases blue and black fruit, backed up by subtle oak and wound around a core of limestone minerality. It could be claimed that this is a Bordeaux wine for Burgundy drinkers.
Owned by renowned winemaking consultant Stéphane Derenoncourt, the single vineyard estate covers 12 hectares on the right bank of Bordeaux - not far from some notable Saint-Émilion estates like Valandraud. The soil is clay-limestone, contributing both the power and the marked freshness to the wine, and is farmed sustainably according to organic and biodynamic principles.

Grape: Cabernet Franc, Merlot
2016 has been heralded as a modern classic vintage in Bordeaux. It began with a lot of rain, and delayed growth. Vineyards with good drainage coped best. However, in June the conditions turned completely with fine weather and very low rainfall. Clay-limestone soils produced the best wine on the right bank. The rain did return in September to relieve the parched vines.
Blackberry, blackcurrant, plum and blueberry fruit are to the fore, alongside an appetising chalky limestone note. A little hint of spice comes through. This is full-bodied with remarkable finesse and purity.
Slow-roasted lamb shoulder studded with garlic, anchovies and served with an herbaceous sauce.
