Te Mata Estate Awatea Cabernets/Merlot Red Wine 2020 New Zealand 75cl
Te Mata Estate Awatea is a classic Bordeaux-blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc in the quintessential Hawkes Bay mould: aromatic, intense and fresh. Vineyards are hand-harvested and then vinified parcel by parcel, with a fairly long, warm extraction, followed by maturation for 17 months in French oak barrels. The result is a serious, fine wine with great depth and a long ageing potential.

"A blend of cabernet sauvignon 54%, merlot 34% and cabernet franc 12%. Elegant wine with blackcurrants, rose petals, fresh herbs, cedar wood and spicy oak (among others). Inevitably, Awatea will be compared to its big brother Coleraine. It stands up well particularly when price is factored in". 5 Stars - Bob Campbell
Grape: Merlot
This is a serious, structured, savoury red wine. Notes of plum and blackcurrant are backed up by some toasty, spicy oak notes and hints of bay laurel and dried mint. There is a gravelly, mineral depth to the wine, as well as fresh acidity. It finishes long, with a pleasant dark chocolate note.
Recommended with roast lamb.
