2012 was a tricky year for vignerons, with a small crop reducing production capacity. The quality, however, is superb. A mild winter was followed by a spring and early summer that was beset with poor weather events, including frost and devastating hail - both of which are detrimental to yields. August saw a turnaround with marvelous weather. The end result was well-ripened grapes with firm acids that promised great flavour development and serious ageing potential. This is a vintage that is now cited as one of the best of the decade, with some epic bottles that are drinking well now and will continue to for many years to come.
This vintage is showing a complex nose of peach, dried fruit, spices, sweet pastries, gingerbread and flowers. The palate is rich and rounded, with a neat citrus acidity keeping things tight and fresh.
Perfect with richly sauced or buttery fish and seafood dishes.
