Gaja Pieve Santa Restituta Brunello di Montalcino 2012 75cl
Gaja Pieve Santa Restituta Brunello di Montalcino 2012 is an expressive, complex wine that has effortlessly hit its 10-year mark and will continue to drink well for years to come. The wine is very full-bodied and powerful, with the tannins still present but now integrated seamlessly. The wine offers up a complex mélange of dried plum, tobacco, fennel seed, forest floor and truffle characteristics.
Pieve Santa Restituta, named after a 4th-century church located on the estate. Having made his fame in Piedmont making world-class wines that thumb their nose at the traditional rules of Barolo and Barbaresco, Angelo Gaja made his first forays into Tuscany in the 1990s, buying up two estates, one of which was Pieve Santa Restituta in Montalcino. In contrast to his approach in Piedmont, Angelo decided to stay within the rules of the appellation, albeit pursuing their fondness for smaller oak barriques rather than the traditional large botti. After investing heavily in a state-of-the-art winery (as well as restoring the church), this is a winery that is now producing immense wines that should not be missed.
