Bitters are like the spice rack of the cocktail world. They are concentrated liquid extractions of seeds, herbs, bark, roots, flowers, leaves and fruit of various plants and their history goes back to ancient times when bittering agents were used by apothecaries to cleanse the body of toxins and aid in digestion.
Today, bitters are a key ingredient in cocktails and come in little bottles with eyedroppers and are used to enhance flavours of cocktails where a drop or two can drastically change the drink's interest and flavour profile.
