Bollinger La Grande Année 2014 Magnum Vintage Champagne 150cl

Bollinger's La Grande Année 2014 Magnum is a combination of 61% Pinot Noir and 39% Chardonnay from 19 different Crus including Aÿ, Chouilly and Oiry. All the grapes have been fermented in French oak barrels for a mature rich finish. Its complexity is also due to the 2014 vintage conditions of plenty of sunshine in June.

La Grande Annee is Bollinger’s prestige blend, produced only when a harvest reaches a perfect balance.

It is Bollinger’s interpretation of an exceptional year, whose virtues deserve to be brought to the fore, and whose quality ensures the continued production of the house’s outstanding prestige vintages. During an exceptional year’s harvest, grapes solely from Grands and Premiers crus are vinified to reveal a harmonious blend that portrays the characteristics of a remarkable viticultural year. La Grande Annee develops a majestic vinosity, and intense, rich and complex aromas, whose tonality varies according to the nature of each vintage.

98/100 - Antonio Gallon “The 2014 La Grande Année is stunning. In fact, it is one of the best recent editions I can remember tasting. What comes through most is the wine’s sizzling energy and tension, qualities that aren’t often associated with Bollinger, where the Champagnes tend to show more breadth and volume. In 2014, readers will find a Grande Année built on linear intensity and drive.

The 2014 is a blend taken from 19 villages, 61% Pinot Noir and 39% Chardonnay instead of the more typical 70/30 mix. For the second time in two decades (the first was 2007), Verzenay takes the lead in the Pinots over Aÿ, more or less an inverse from the norm. Verzenay, a north-facing village in the Montagne de Reims that saw less rain than Aÿ and most of the Vallée de la Marne, yields Pinots of energy more than volume. That, married with Chardonnays mostly from the Côtes des Blancs (predominantly Chouilly, Vertus, Oiry and Cramant), results in a truly magical Grande Année that will delight Champagne fans for several decades. I can’t recommend the 2014 highly enough. It’s a total knock-out. Disgorged: April, 2021. Dosage: 8 grams per liter.” vinous.com Mar 2022
Grape: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir
Tinted gold and straw yellow. On the nose a bouquet of quince, hazelnut, almond and ripe white peaches. The palate is balanced with fine acidity and vinosity. Excellent length on the palate with a delicate minerality.
La Grande Annee is a rich and mature style making it great for food parings, try with langoustine ravioli or courgettes Tromboncino.
