Prunotto Pian Romualdo Barbera d'Alba 2018 75cl
Prunotto Pian Romualdo Barbera d'Alba is an exceptional single-vineyard wine that exhibits fresh blackberry and cherry fruit alongside clove and nutmeg spice. This is full-bodied with ample power, and well-balanced with a savoury, appetising finish. The Pian Romualdo vineyard experiences significant diurnal changes in day and night temperatures, which results in a fine, fresh style of Barbera that possesses both power and elegance. The style is a modern yet elegant and authentic expression of place and grape variety.
Legendary Piedmont estate Prunotto was established in 1922 by Alfredo Prunotto, who retired in 1956 and sold the winery to his friend Beppe Colla. It was Beppe who shaped much of what makes Prunotto the estate it is now, as it was he who pioneered single-vineyard bottlings of their best sites. A firm believer in the quality of Barbera (a grape variety that was often seen as a workhorse variety for everyday wines), in 1961 he produced the first vintage of Pian Romualdo.
