The Joseph Phelps Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 is a classic, fruit-forward Californian red that exhibits a youthful energy and freshness. It has been aged for 18 months is 48% new oak and 52% older French and American Oak Barrels before bottling.
It’s a classic Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, with grapes sourced from appellations all across California, including St. Helena, Stags Leap and Rutherford.
Joseph Phelps Vineyards was founded in 1973, by its trailblazing winemaker who worked alongside Californian giants to build the Vineyard. Today, Joe Phelps sets the benchmark for Napa Valley and Californian wine as a whole, through his incredible range of Bordeaux and Rhône-inspired reds.

Grape: Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot
In 2021, the overall weather pattern was cooler than 2020 and an earlier bloom than normal. Summer brought more wind than we normally experience in Napa Valley creating a more mild overall season into fall that provided a long hang time prior to harvest. The 2021 vintage is marked by high quality fruit with exceptional color and tannin. The concentration, low yields, and small berries were reminiscent of the 2015 vintage.
A rich, fleshy wines that is full-bodied in the mouth with notes of blackcurrant, plum, dried herbs and baking spices such as vanilla and cinnamon. It has classicly expressive aromatics of ripe currants, leather, tobacco and dark chocolate notes. The wine is vibrant and offers an acidic structure and depth that comes from the long-term cellar aging.
The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon pairs well with grilled dishes such as cabbage and celeric, duck breast or swordfish. Red meat or cheese based dishes will also pair nicely.
