Giacomo Fenocchio Barolo Villero Red Wine 2018 Italy 75cl
From a small, family-owned estate, this traditional style wine is given a long, 40-day maceration and then aged in large (35-50 hectolitre) Slavonian oak casks for 30 months. This wine comes from a single vineyard, or “cru” called Villero, located in the village of Castiglione Falletto. This cru presents a warm but elegant flavour, and expresses the iron-rich clay and limestone soil type, which comes through in a leafy, ferrous, rich wine.
Five generations of Fenocchios have produced wine from this estate and up until 1964 was mostly sold for local consumption. Despite changes to wine-making worldwide, this estate continued producing wines in the time-honoured techniques of organic farming with a natural fermentation process rather than with selected yeasts.
