Besserat de Bellefon BB 1843 75cl
Besserat de Bellefon BB 1843 was devised as an experimental cuvée that involved carrying out the primary fermentation in oak barrels and then giving extending ageing in bottle, both pre- and post-disgorgement. It is a multi-vintage blend, comprising vintages 2008, 2009 and 2012. The grapes were sourced from several Premier and Grand Cru villages. The wine spent 5 years on lees and was disgorged in 2018, resulting in a harmonious, mature and complex Champagne.
Besserat de Bellefon was founded in 1930 by Victor Besserat, who developed a champagne that would be delicate and lightly effervescent, and would accompany any meal perfectly.

On the nose, freshly baked milk loaf, panettone, candied citrus peel and very subtle vanilla. The palate has a lovely creamy texture, which cloaks the powerful, mineral core of the wine and makes for a dramatic entry. On the mid-palate, more citrus and then the subtle oak spice develops more, leading to a persistent finish.
Seared scallops with buttered artichokes; slow-roast leg of lamb ; apple and raspberry compote with biscuit rose de Reims.
