Yarra Yering Dry Red No.2 2019 is a shiraz-dominated blend (96%) with a co-fermented touch of Mataro, Viognier and Marsanne. Produced in Victoria's Yarra Valley region, the 2019 wine is an elegant and fragrant expression of a northern Rhône-style wine.

The 2019 Yarra Yering Dry Red No.2 is one of Australia’s most iconic, celebrated and distinctive reds ; a Shiraz-dominant Rhône-style blend from the Yarra Valley that combines fragrance, elegance, and structure in a way few Australian wines can match. Now with some 7 years of bottle age, it is drinking at a beautifully expressive stage.

Dr Bailey Carrodus, helped re-establish the Yarra Valley (Victoria) as one of Australia’s pre-eminent wine regions. After several years of careful research, in 1969 he purchased land at the foot of the Warramate Hills, and in 1973 produced the first vintages of his now iconic Dry Red Wine No.1 and Dry Red Wine No.2. From the beginning, it set itself apart with a numbering system rather than varietal labels- Dry Red No.1 (Bordelais blend) and this Dry Red No.2 (Rhône blend); a signature that has become part of Australian Wine history.

"98 points. Shiraz, Mataro, Viognier. Hand picked, sorted and then destemmed directly to the Yarra Yering half-tone open-fermenters. As much whole-berry ferment as possible to encourage perfume. A portion of fermenters had frozen Viognier skins added to the bottom. Aged 15 months in French oak barriques 30% new before blending. It's easy to be bowled over by this wine's beauty, from its bright colour to its heady fragrance of violets, Middle Eastern spices, fresh currants and blue fruits. Then magic happens. It is superfine, graced with perfectly formed silky tannins. The oak is seamlessly integrated, then flavours builds across the barely medium-bodied palate. While there's a lightness of touch, it's layered and complex. A complete wine full of style, elegance and substance." - Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion.
Grape: Marsanne, Mataro, Shiraz, Viognier
With the 2019 vintage, the palate is medium-to-full-bodied with aromas of violets, ripe plum and bramble alongside black pepper and exotic spices. These flavours are underpinned by fine tannins and an earthy mineral edge.
