The winery was initially created by Vittorio De Bortoli, who moved from Italy to the fertile Riverine region in New South Wales, and is now run by the fourth generation of the De Bortoli family.
The official motto of the De Bortoli family, Semper ad Majora (meaning always striving for better), and their unofficial motto 'Good food, good wine and good friends', remain as true and central to the family and business as ever.

On the nose, this deep purple Durif wine hits you with intense aromas of liquorice, Christmas cake and black fruits, complemented perfectly but subtleties of dark chocolate and hints of white pepper and dried apricot. On the palate, flavours of ripe black fruits, mixed fruit spice and liquorice are showcased, highlighted beautifully with dark chocolate oak and well integrated tannins.
The De Bortoli Vat 1 Durif would pair perfectly with red meats, specifically a herbed rack of lamb, beef wellington or even a chilli con carne.
