McHenry Hohnen Rocky Road Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2021 is a classic Western Australian Dry Wine, made famous by Jack Mann, who is renowned for being the most famous Winemaker in Australian Wine History. A harmonious blend of two remarkable grape varieties, which results in a fresh, fragrant, and friendly wine. Semillon, 52%, is the star of the show and offers weight, viscosity, length, and structure to the blend. Whereas the Sauvignon, 48%, is upfront, fresh, and highly aromatic.

Produced using grapes exclusively from the Calgardup Brook Vineyard, which lies just inland from the coast, the wine was aged in stainless steel tanks and large oak casks. The climate of this vineyard is strongly influenced by its proximity to the Indian Ocean.

Grape & Harvest

Grape: Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon

The 2021 Rocky Road Semillon Sauvignon Blanc season started out with a cooler, wet spring which resulted in a lower fruit set. They experienced above-average rainfalls in early spring, meaning extra effort was required in the organically grown vineyards to mitigate disease pressure. Spring rolled into summer with long warm, and dry days; however a couple of rain events in February and March required extra effort from the vineyard team in terms of canopy management and fruit selection at harvest.

Tasting Notes

On the nose, notes of honeydew melon, lime zest and fresh cut grass notes are balanced by tropical aromas of guava and lychee. The palate offers generous passionfruit, while the fresh, natural acidity makes for a bright and mineral finish.

Food Suggestions

The wine will pair nicely with lightly spiced white meats, fish dishes or salads.
