McHenry Hohnen Hazel's Vineyard 2023 Chardonnay is a powerful and complex Australian wine from the Margaret River region. A family-owned business, McHenry Hohnen is a joint venture between the celebrated David Hohnen, of Cape Mentelle and Cloudy Bay notoriety, and his brother-in-law, Murray McHenry. They source their wines from only the very best sites in the region and embrace minimal intervention winemaking, where each wine is a focused expression of the growing season, the individual site, and the grape variety.

The McHenry Hohnen vineyards are managed using 100% biodynamic methods, which are intended to improve the health and vitality of the soil, resulting in improved plant health and drastically improving the plants' resistance to disease and pests.

'98 Points. The vineyard stamps its character on this from the get-go. Notes of lemon scents with lightly roasted cashew and faint struck match. The palate is intense and with a fine acidity and minerally character defining it through its linear range. Beautifully integrated and tightly coiled before releasing through to a sustained finish. Grape & Harvest

Grape: Chardonnay

2023 was a season of balance and elegance. A wet, cold winter transitioned into a cool, dry spring, allowing for even flowering and healthy yields. Summer was consistently warm and dry, with mild nights and no extreme heat events. High diurnal temperature variation supported slow, even ripening and excellent aromatic development. The result is a vintage defined by clarity, freshness, and site expression—particularly strong for white varieties like Chardonnay.

Tasting Notes

On the nose, aromas of nectarine, peach fuzz and toasty oak. The palate is creamy, with flavours of ripe stone fruit, white nectarine and pink grapefruit. A flinty and chalky complexity leads into a precise acid line with a long finish.
