Marques de Murrieta Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial 2011 75cl
Marques de Murrieta Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial 2011 is sourced from La Plana vineyard, and undergoes rigorous selection so that only the very best grapes make it into the wine. It is only made in years when the vintage is of a sufficiently high standard - none will be released for 2013, 2014, or 2015. The wine ages for 28 months in oak barrels; Tempranillo in American oak, and Mazuelo in French oak before further years maturing in bottle. The end result is one the most sublime of Rioja red wines.

"Extremely well-mannered, traditional character to this, showing layer upon layer of savory complexity on the nose, with iron, dried meat, tobacco, balsamic fruit, dried red berries, orange peel, leather and dried mushrooms. A medium-to full-bodied, linear and zesty Rioja that’s full of nuanced flavors that linger through the very long, savory finish. Floral, too. Yet, it remains bright and precise. Tempranillo with 16% mazuelo. Drink on release or hold" 98 Points - James Suckling

Grape: Mazuelo, Tempranillo
This vintage benefits from Rioja's decision to reduce yields for red wines by 10% in order to improve quality even further. The weather throughout 2010 was favourable resulting in a healthy and even harvest evident in the excellent balance and structure in the wines, perfect for long ageing.
Ripe fruit aromas of black cherry, blueberry and blackcurrant are prominent with thyme and clove accents, and a hint of coffee and dark chocolate. This vintage is very well balanced, with a lively acidity giving energy to the wine and a silky, elegant texture.
Works well with truffled game dishes such as pigeon. Also wonderful with braised oxtail.
