Balnaves Coonawarra 2021 Cabernet Merlot Australia Case Deal - 12 bottles of the Cabernet Merlot blend produced in Coonawarra, South Australia. The Balnaves family has worked within the wine region since 1855, and today has five hectares of vineyards classified into separate plots based on age, soil quality and the like.
The vineyard separates the fruits and processes them separately, and the resulting wine reflects the richness of the land in which they were grown. In addition to this, the winery thoroughly analyse the main features of each wine created from each vineyard, and studies the relation between micro-climatic conditions and the quality of the wine produced.
"A blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot matured for 13 months in French oak (20% new). Fantastic depth of colour featuring an impenetrable inky black heart along with a deep black dark red hue. Intense blackcurrant and ripe mulberry aromas flood the nostrils with hints of choc mint, vanillin cedar, tobacco and spice also evident. Rich and full yet structured, the palate is awash with blackcurrant, mulberry and choc mint flavours which impart a plush mid palate feel. Backed by firm yet integrated tannins, vanillin cedar, subtle earthy tobacco and spice characters echo across the back half. Excellent concentration and depth concluding long and sturdy" - Nicks Wine Reviews.
As a result of the character of the merlot fruit, this red wine is a strikingly bold purple-garnet hue, delightfully smooth, and boasts a delightfully floral flavour, specifically roses, violets and potpourri. It showcases concentrated flavours of blackcurrant and bright juniper berry, and combines perfectly on the palate with accents of fresh garden mint and fine-grained oak. On the nose, this wine exudes intense aromas of spice and blackcurrant, complemented deliciously with subtle hints of vanilla oak.
The Balnaves Coonawarra Cabernet Merlot is a perfect blend of the two grape varieties, so would make a perfect accompaniment for barbeques or hearty meals.
