Esk Valley Marlborough Pinot Noir is made from fruit sourced from the southern part of the Wairau Valley, where soils have a high clay content. This translates into a relatively full, rich style of Pinot Noir, with dark fruits and hints of dried herbs and spices.
The grapes were destemmed, and fermented with wild yeasts in open-top fermenters, with punch-downs done by hand for gentle extraction. Ageing occurred in French oak barrels, with just 4% new oak, resulting in a very subtle presence of oak on the palate and more of a focus on the fruit.
