Edi Simčič Duet Goriška Brda Slovenia 2018 is a delicious and interesting wine from Slovenia. Based on Merlot with a little of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, it has an intense core of briar fruit with some spicy character. Edi Simčič retired from a career working at the local cooperative winery and began working on his wife's family vineyards and establishing his own brand in the 1990s. In contrast to how most growers would farm back then, Edi's focus was on low-yields and high quality. It is his son Aleks, and grandsons Jure and Jakob, who now look after this 13.5-hectare estate. Their style is to make intense wines that are full of concentrated fruit character, and then age them in small oak barrels to develop further complexity.
