Petit Verdot
Petit Verdot is a red wine grape variety mainly diffused in Bordeaux, where it is used for the infamous Bordeaux blend. It ripens later than other grapes, however when it does ripen, it adds tannin, flavour and colour to the blend.
The flavours that Petit Verdot offers are purely of black fruits from plum, blackberry, blueberry and black cherry. Some herbaceous notes and floral like violet, sage and lavender with dried herbs. When aged the tannins soften and flavours of vanilla and mocha are more present. The pairing for food is mainly with white meat like lamb, pork, bbq, but also cheese like Grana Padano, Gouda, Cheddar and Gruyere.
