The Liberator Episode 21 MSG is a blend of 80% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah and 10% Grenache from producer Lammershoek located in the picturesque hills of Paardeberg. . Richard Kelley is a master of Wine specialising in the wines of South Africa having lived and worked in the Cape between 1995 and 2002. Rick seeks out and ‘liberates’ rare wines from around the Cape and releases them in episodes.

‘GSM’ and ‘SMG’ are both regular acronyms within the wine world for blends of these 3 grape varieties. However, others have avoided ‘MSG’ due to the link with the food enhancer monosodium glutamate. Yet this had not deterred Rick and it happens that MSG’s ‘E number’ is E621 and thus, The Liberator hits Episode 21.

Pairs well with…

  • Black Pepper
  • Cured Meat
  • Lamb
  • Red Meat
  • Venison
Grape: Grenache, Mourvedre, Syrah
This is a well-balanced blend capturing the Swartland terroir with aromas of fresh black fruits, violets and thyme. The palate is spicy, complex and spicy with refined tannins.
Needs rich foods to balance the ripe tannins in the wine, pair with rabbit stew.
