Pellegrino Kelbi Catarratto White Wine 2021 Italy 75cl
Pellegrino Kelbi is a characterful dry white wine that showcases the indigenous Sicilian grape variety Catarratto. Fermentation occurs at low temperature in stainless steel tanks, preserving freshness and allowing the fruitiness of Catarratto to shine.
Pellegrino's history of winemaking in Sicily dates back to the 19th Century: they are one of the founding estates of the famous Marsala fortified wine. With the decline in popularity of Marsala, Pellegrino began to research dry table wine production, working out which of the grape varieties could perform well in their varied terroirs. They established four small estates, each location suiting a different expression of Sicilian wine. Kelbi is 19ha of vineyards at 150m altitude on the interior of the island. Hot days contrast with much cooler nights, and there is plenty of wind to mitigate the daytime heat, which is the ideal climate for crisp, fresh white wines made from the distinctive local grape variety Catarratto.
