The 2016 release is the fifth Cristal Vintage created by Louis Roederer. Coming from a cool, late vintage, it reveals a rare balance between the intensity of pure aromas and a saline, chalky finish. It offers the perfect Cristal balance: 50% soil and 50% sun.
Cristal Champagne is a wine that keeps well and can be stored for over twenty years without losing its freshness and character.

“98 Points. This has wonderfully pure fruit aromas, such as peaches, Asian pears and golden apples, alongside lemon curd, gingerbread, chalk and jasmine. Rock salt and oyster shells follow on the palate, which is so seamless that you scarcely notice the super-fine bubbles. It’s concentrated yet gentle at the same time, with impressive resolution and integration of all components. Salty and creamy at the very-long finish. Fantastic! 58% pinot noir and 42% chardonnay. 58% Pinot Noir and 42% Chardonnay. 2016 was characterised with marked weather variations. Spring was cool and wet whereas summer was warm and dry. A heatwave in late August was followed by dry and sunny weather over the harvest period which proved to be highly beneficial to the ripening of the grapes. Pinot Noir grapes thrived in these conditions and the heat has given them an intensely fruity character with a silky texture. Chardonnays were just as outstanding, but presented as more refined and saline.
On the nose, the bouquet is intense, deep and precise with notes of white flowers, roasted citrus and ripe yellow fruits such as peaches and Mirabelle plums. The palate leaves an immediate impression, with concentrated ripe fruit notes from the Pinot Noir and wheat and oyster shell notes that are synonymous with great, late ripening Chardonnays. Bright, shiny yellow hue. Magnificent fine, slow-moving bubbles.
