The Joseph Phelps Insignia 2021 is a powerful and structured wine that is characteristic of this great Napa Valley vintage. Made up of a blend that is Cabernet Sauvignon dominated, the 2021 Vintage was aged for 24 months in 100% new French oak barrels before bottling.
Perfect to drink now but can be aged in cellar until 2042, this full-bodied Californian red offers a great concentration, energy and depth.
Joseph Phelps Vineyards was founded in 1973, by its trailblazing winemaker who worked alongside Californian giants to build the Vineyard. Today, Joe Phelps sets the benchmark for Napa Valley and Californian wine as a whole, through his incredible range of Bordeaux and Rhône-inspired reds.

In 2021, the overall weather pattern was cooler than 2020 and an earlier bloom than normal. Summer brought more wind than we normally experience in Napa Valley creating a more mild overall season into fall that provided a long hang time prior to harvest. The 2021 vintage is marked by high quality fruit with exceptional color and tannin. The concentration, low yields, and small berries were reminiscent of the 2015 vintage.
The Insignia 2021 has vibrant aromas of black cherry, hibiscus and wild blackberry; softer notes of vanilla are present throughout. On the palate, the dark fruit characteristics are harmonized with warn tones of baking spices. Soft tannins and a bright acidity enhances the finish, complementing the rich fruit and savoury undertones.
