On the nose, aromas of baked apples and cinnamon. On the palate, ripe citrus, vanilla, dried fruits and nuttiness. Honeyed notes, mandarin citrus with fudge and a splash of water. The finish is spicy with chocolate, cherries and bitter orange.
Production at the distillery began in Lochranza approximately 30 years ago. There were many potential locations but Loch na Davie provided a special source of fresh water for the distilling process which would benefit the company for years to come. The second distillery was opened at Lagg, in the south of the island in 2019, where their unique peated single malt is produced.
The geography is key to the whisky's character, the microclimate, local water and quality of air all have an influence on the whisky's end result as the spirit is distilled and matured. They create spirits that reflect a range of influences in the region but are still able to achieve a unique personality. This Isle of Arran whisky couldn't be created anywhere else, the whisky is the island in a bottle.
