Agricola Punica Isola dei Nuraghi Barrua Red Wine 2019 Italy 75cl
Barrua is a full-bodied blend of the traditional Carignano del Sulcis, and Bordeaux varieties Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The vineyards, in the Basso Sulcis subregion of Sardinia, receive ample sunshine and warmth, contributing beautifully ripe tannins. Proximity to the sea tempers the climate and brings balance and freshness. The approach to winemaking here is similar to that of Italy's famous Supertuscans: blending traditional and non-traditional varieties, growing and selecting the most pristine fruit possible, and ageing in the finest oak barriques that money can buy. Meticulous winemaking, using state of the art temperature controlled vats, is followed by 18 months maturation in oak barriques and a further 6 in bottle. The result is a special, distinguishably Sardinian but of world-class quality and refinement.
The team behind Agricola Punica contains some of the most formidable names in Italian wine. The initial vision and driving force is Giacomo Tacchis - the man widely regarded as the Supertuscans' genius architect who co-created Tignanello, Solaia and Sassicaia. Backing him is Marchese Nicolò Incisa Della Rocchetta (owner of Tenuta San Guido of Sassicaia fame) and Antonello Pilloni of the local Cantina di Santadi. Agricola Punica is one of the most renowned names in the wine world as a result of their vision of Sardinian wine and their belief that Sulcis is the perfect environment for growing Carignano.
