Bollinger RD 2002 Vintage is a blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay creating this full-bodied masterpiece. Only the very best of vintage champagnes become a Bollinger R.D and 2002 is one of the most promising vintages of the last decade.
“Recently Disgorged” means that disgorgement has taken place less than one year before commercial release. The wine offers freshness and extraordinary intensity due to its recent disgorgement, as well as the aromas of an old vintage which has been aged in the cellar for an exceptionally long time, all the while nourished by contact with the lees and has blossomed during this time stored in perfect conditions.
In order to showcase its unique style, we recommend serving Bollinger R.D. at a temperature of 8°C, then to appreciate the evolution of its aromas over the course of the tasting. To discover the freshness of recent disgorgement, Bollinger R.D. can be enjoyed in the year it was disgorged, or you may also choose to let it mature further: its potential for ageing is endless.

The 2002 vintage had an excellent spring with no noteworthy frost and an almost perfect flowering. This was followed by a summer that offered long, sunny period which was interrupted by regular cloud and rainfall.

On the palate, this champagne has a full-bodied charge, managing to remain powerful but well-balanced. It has a persistent mineral finish with touches of citrus, which reveals a pleasant bitterness.
With aromatic hints of stewed fruit and discreet notes of honey, this champagne develops to offer roasted cocoa which allows the flavours of nutmeg and star anise to push through.

Champagne Bollinger owns an incredible 178 hectares of vineyards, 85% of which are in Grand Cru and Premier Cru villages. Seven main villages make up their land: Aÿ, Avenay, Louvois, Tauxières, and Verzenay, which are planted with Pinot Noir; Cuis, which is planted with Chardonnay; and Champvoisy, which is planted with Meunier. Bollinger is one of the few Houses that grows the majority of the grapes used in their blends. 60% of the vineyards at the House are planted with pinot noir, which epitomises the House style: powerful, complex and with exceptional structure. Champagne Bollinger received the High Environment Value (HEV) certification in 2012. This certification recognises a number of environmental practises that the Maison has put in place.
With the release of R.D. 1952 in 1961, Madame Bollinger created the first vintage of this now-famous prestige cuvée. Bollinger R.D is the result of Madame Bollinger's grand vision: an expert wine with aromas enhanced by its extraordinarily long maturation in the cellars of the Bollinger family—more than three times longer than necessary.
